REGULAR BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING

AUGUST 12, 2013

7:00 P.M.

 

CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the Board of Education for the Hayes Center Public Schools District #43-0079 was held on Monday, August 12, 2013 in the Conference Room at the High School. Notice of the meeting was given in advance by publication and posted in accordance with the Board policy of giving notice of such meetings. Notice of this meeting was given in advance to all Board members.

ROLL CALL- President Anderjaska called the meeting to order at 7:03 P.M. with Superintendent Ron Howard, and Board members Joe Anderjaska, Connie Brott, Britt Hill, Marian Richards and Bob Rosno present. Amanda Johnson was absent.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by those in attendance.

RECOGNITION OF VISITORS: There were no visitors present.

 RECOGNITION OF OPEN MEETINGS ACT POSTER -The Open Meetings Act Poster was in the room and recognized by President Anderjaska.

ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA: Brott  moved, seconded by Rosno, to adopt the agenda. Voting yes: Anderjaska, Brott, Hill, Richards, Rosno. Voting no: None.   Absent: Johnson. Motion passed 5-0 with 1 absent.

AUDIENCE COMMUNICATIONS-None  

SERVICES REPORT: Gregg Bishop, Jeanne Bishop and Maury Cox were present to answer questions from the board.

Mr. Bishop reported that there was hail damage to the front end of the three newer Suburbans-he recommended fixing all three. He also reported on the bid for a new Suburban to replace the black Suburban.  Maury reported on the hail damage to the teacherages. He recommended fixing the three roofs.  Johnson arrived at 7:12 P.M.

TEACHER ASSOCIATION UPDATE-None   

BOARD MEMBER/COMMITTEE REPORTS/REQUESTS: NASB Membership meeting in North Platte August 29th.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT- Mr. Howard gave a short budget report and  would like the Finance Committee to meet before the next regular meeting to discuss the budget. There will be an induction of new teachers tomorrow afternoon and a staff/board picnic tomorrow evening. Staff meetings will be held Wednesday with professional development days on Thursday and Friday and a teacher work day Monday to ready for the first day of classes on Tuesday. There will be 120 students this year.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – None.

ACTION ITEMS- CONSENT AGENDA-Johnson moved, seconded by Brott , to approve the consent agenda consisting of the Approval of minutes for July 8, 2013 Regular meeting, Approval of July additional payroll of $436.64, Approval of additional July General Fund claims of $1,356.66, Approval of Building Fund claims of $23,170.00, Approval of Depreciation Fund claim of $13,447.12, Approval of August General Fund claims $182,179.43(Payroll - $118,450.23  Claims - $63,729.20). Voting yes: Brott, Hill, Johnson, Richards, Rosno, Anderjaska. Voting no:  none. Motion passed 6-0.

APPROVE LOCAL SUBSTITUTE: Mr. Howard recommended that the board approve Jessica McKinney as a substitute for the next year. She has subbed for the past two years.

Rosno moved, seconded by Brott, to approve Jessica McKinney as a substitute for next year. Voting yes: Hill, Johnson, Richards, Rosno, Anderjaska, Brott. Voting no: none. Motion passed 6-0.

BUILDING DAMAGE AND VEHICLE REPAIRS-Mr. Howard asked for recommendations from the board.

Rosno moved, seconded by Johnson, to fix the roofs on the three houses but to table indefinitely, the vehicle hail repairs. Voting yes: Johnson, Richards, Rosno, Anderjaska, Brott, Hill. Voting no: none. Motion passed 6-0.

SUBURBAN BID-Mr. Howard brought back the bid for a Suburban for the new budget cycle as requested by the board. Brott moved, seconded by Johnson to accept the bid and use money from the Depreciation Fund.  Voting yes: Richards, Anderjaska, Brott, Hill, Johnson. Voting no: Rosno. Motion passed 5-1.

ACCEPT BID FOR SALE OF 2001 SUBURBAN-Mr. Howard recommended accepting the bid for $1,000.

Rosno moved, seconded by Brott, to accept the bid. Voting yes: Rosno, Anderjaska, Brott, Hill, Johnson, Richards. Voting no: none. Motion passed 6-0.

RECOGNIZE HCEA AS THE BARGAINING AGENT FOR 2014-2015 NEGOTIATIONS- Rosno moved, seconded by Brott, to recognize HCEA as the bargaining agent for 2014-2015 Negotiations. After discussion the vote was taken. Voting yes: Anderjaska, Brott, Hill, Richards, Rosno. Voting no: Johnson. Motion passed 5-1.

DISCUSSION-SCHOOL ATTORNEY SELECTION-Mr. Howard was instructed to make some inquiries. SNAPSHOT OF 2013-2014 BUDGET-Already discussed under Superintendent report.

President Anderjaska adjourned the meeting at 8:04 P.M.

The next regular scheduled meeting of the board of education will be September 9, 2013 at 7:00 P.M.

CALL TO ORDER: The annual Parental Involvement Hearing of the Board of Education for the Hayes Center Public Schools District #43-0079 was held on Monday, August 12, 2013 in the Conference Room at the High School. Notice of the meeting was given in advance by publication and posting in accordance with the Board policy of giving notice of such meetings. Notice of this meeting was given in advance to all Board members.

ROLL CALL- President Anderjaska called the meeting to order at 6:55 P.M. with Superintendent Ron Howard, and Board members Joe Anderjaska, Connie Brott, Britt Hill, Marian Richards, and Bob Rosno present. Amanda Johnson was absent.

The Open Meetings Law Poster was on display and recognized by President Anderjaska.

The Parental Involvement Public Hearing, in compliance with Nebraska Statutes, is for the purpose of hearing support, opposition, criticism, suggestions or observations of the taxpayers relating to Parental Involvement at Hayes Center Public Schools.

Notice of the meeting was given in advance by publication and posting in accordance with the Board policy of giving notice of such meetings. Notice of this meeting was given in advance to all Board members.

ROLL CALL- President Anderjaska called the meeting to order at 7:03 P.M. with Superintendent Ron Howard, and Board members Joe Anderjaska, Connie Brott, Britt Hill, Marian Richards, and Bob Rosno present. Amanda Johnson was absent.
